7w
I'm 7 weeks today! Hooray! I haven't had the yucky tummy-ness in the past few days, which is nice, but I'm feeling a lot more tired. Yesterday I could have, and probably should have, gone to bed when Lila did. But I did make it to bed at 9:30, which is pretty early for me. I was up several times throughout the night to pee. And so it begins... At least I'm used to it this time.
Cincinnati and Target
Yesterday was another early day. 6:30. In the past Lila's usually woken up at 8 or so. For a while there was a time when she woke up between 9 and 10, and that was awesome. Jake had gotten up before 5 to shower and leave for Cincinnati. We chatted with him on the phone several times throughout the morning, before his meeting started at noon. Jake and I also talked to Mike on the phone (separately) because he was excited that Cassandra had "finally" told him she thinks they should get married, probably in December.
I got Lila's room more organized and set up her big girl bed. We read books together and eventually she napped on the bed. While she ate, I ate lunch and did some cleaning. I was super tired, so after that, I laid down on my bed and read for a few minutes and then laid down. It was heavenly. But it only lasted for literally like a minute, because Lila woke up.
We eventually headed out to vacuum Jake's 4Runner in the driveway. It was very hot out! 85+ degrees and really humid! It felt like summer! Lila's cheeks got super rosy. So after we were done with that, we went to Target. I wanted to find her some sandals. I did, but they were too big for her (I just bought them without having her try them on... I didn't want to make a scene at the store). I also found a shirt on clearance for both Lila and me.
So, Lila has this thing about pooping at Target. She had already pooped in the morning, and lately, she only poops once a day or sometimes just every other day. So I was pretty hopeful that she wouldn't continue her tradition of pooping every time we go there. She had been sitting happily in the cart the whole time, but once we got to the kids' clothes section, she got bored, so I took her out of the cart to walk around. Not 2 minutes later, and I hear her pooping away. And she was smiling so big. LOL. At least she didn't scream and cry when I was changing her diaper, like she usually does. She was pretty happy.
Jake called just as we were leaving (while I was changing her diaper, actually, and he thought it was pretty funny that she had pooped) at 3:00 to say that he was on his way back to Kalamazoo. It was a relatively short meeting, but he said it was a good one and one that definitely needed to be done in person. When we got home, I fixed myself a peanut butter bagel and Lila ate quite a few bites of it! She was whining to nurse but I managed to stall her for some time by having her eat, which is good and important. She seemed to really enjoy it too.
At 4:30 we headed to the Burkhead's. They were having an open house for the former Sister Huntington (Kelliann). Jake and I spent a lot of time with her and Sister Rafi (who is engaged to a black guy apparently) while they were teaching Kiwi. It was a fun time, to be with so many of my KUB friends, including the Johnsons. It was like a mini-reunion. It amazes me sometimes to watch Lila walk around. She's a real toddler now, not a baby. This was very apparent when Desiree and Tyler showed up with 3-week-old Jarom. He is teeny-tiny, and probably not yet as big as Lila was when she was born. It was my first time meeting him and seeing Desiree since she had him. She's as talkative as ever. Jarom has his days and nights mixed up, so they're up all night with him. Parenthood can be pretty intense. I'm so grateful that Lila really had no problem with her days and nights at all.
It was a luau theme, so the food was pretty delish. Lila even ate some of my sweet potatoes! She tried them on her own! As a young baby, she hated mushy foods, but she seemed to like these. Didn't eat a whole lot of them, of course, but it's still pretty cool. It was really funny too... I asked her if she'd like to have some of my chicken, and she replied, "Bawk, bawk." That kid is so cute.
We got home at 7 and Lila got a bath. We Skyped with my parents, and even with Jake for a little bit (on his iPhone, which was pretty cool, Lila loved seeing him). He got home around 8 so was able to see Lila for a little bit. She fell asleep at 8:30 on her own.
I only stayed up till 9:30. I was beat and had a headache. But I visited with Jake for a while and we made a to-do list of the rest of the cleaning that needs to be done before we can move ahead with bigger projects, like painting.

Drink Much?
This morning started earlier than usual. Lila was up at 6:30. We played around after breakfast, but then she (and I) went back to bed from 9-10:40, which was awesome. She was in a great mood then. We Skyped with my family. And she did the cutest thing. I asked her what a duck says, and she said, "Quack, quack!" But from her it sounds more like, "Gao, gao." And then I asked her what a chicken says and she said, "Bawk, bawk!" SO cute. She did that a lot throughout the day, and also says "quack, quack" when she sees a ducky in one of her books. Smart girl.
We got ready and then left to get the tires rotated on the Camry. Jake is taking it to Cincinnati tomorrow. (He's leaving early in the morning and coming back the same day.) I took a lot of books and toys with me because sometimes it takes up to an hour. I also stopped at McDonald's on the way for lunch, which I thought would also occupy Lila if needed. I really didn't want her to be cranky or have a meltdown at the tire shop. It was a very pleasant, and quick, experience though. I think we were only there for 15 minutes. Lila was a rockstar and ate quite a few bites from a chicken nugget and also munched on a French fry. Stopped at the bank on the way home to deposit some checks and she was a good girl there too.
When we got home, she was interested in my rootbeer cup from McDonald's so she took a few sips of it and was pretty happy about it. She likes cups like that. So I dumped out the rootbeer and put milk in there to see if she would like that. She took a few sips and then lost interest. :) She eventually went down for another nap at 2:50 and didn't wake up till after 4. Good girl. :) During that time, I was able to do some cleaning, pay some bills, write Jess a thank you card, and do some work for Primary.
She got up and was pretty cranky/clingy for a little while, but got better. I got dinner in the oven, we watched some news in the basement for a while, and then we went outside and walked around the driveway (one of Lila's favorite things to do). I met our next-door neighbor Steve, Terri's husband. They have the two boys, Brody (4) and Toby (3). Nice people. Jake came home too as we were chatting and he got to meet Steve too.
Dinner was okay. The food itself was yummy, but Lila didn't do so well with eating it. She did take a few sips of milk, but didn't eat a lot of food. She whined a lot too. After dinner I was so tired and laid down for a few minutes, but not for too long. Jake dedicated the house for FHE (we forgot to do it yesterday) and then he took Lila outside to play so that I could have some quiet time to myself. I could've just laid there, but I wanted to clean the kitchen, so I did that and watched an episode of Glee while doing it. Lila had a blast playing with the kids next door. Mostly she just walked up and down the little hill near their swing set and thought that was so much fun.
Came in, did scriptures and prayer. Jake got the girl ready for bed. She cried for an hour because I wouldn't nurse her. She was really mad but eventually just plopped down and fell asleep. Yikes. She needs to get better at falling asleep.
Now Jake and I are sitting at the kitchen counter, both on our computers. Boring. He's looking for an audio book to download for his road trip tomorrow.
Earlier, we were snacking on cheese puffs and caffeine free pepsi and I choked a bit on the pop. Jake asked, "Drink much?" And then continued to say, "I only said that because it's something you would say." True that.

6w 4d
Well, today was ok, but I definitely felt pregnant for most of it. I'm actually feeling pretty good right now, which is surprising, because usually bedtime is the worst. I even felt yucky this morning. I often feel like I need to eat, but nothing sounds good. I'm mostly thirsty, but I don't think I'm drinking enough water. My belly was sticking out SO far this afternoon, when Jake got home from work. Very bloated, I guess. And tired. Last night was another relatively poor night of sleep. Felt sick getting into bed. I woke up several times (Lila probably woke me up) and didn't get back to sleep right away. Needing to pee more. Once I needed to get up to take my inhaler because I was coughing.
Maestro (Jake's employer) is switching insurance policies so now all well-child checks will have no co-pay, which is great. Too bad they don't apply to all the ones we've had with Lila so far, but good to know that we'll be able to save some money with future children.

Last Night
Oh, I forgot to write. Last night before bed, Jake and I cuddled on the couch for a while. Since we've moved in, our pre-bed time has been spent on the computer and not really together. So we got to chat, read the scriptures, talk about things that have been on our minds. I really want to do better with our scripture study as a family. We often do it, but it's usually rushed and right before Lila goes to bed, when she's cranky and tired. I want Lila to have a strong foundation of gospel principles. I want to be a good example to her and a good teacher, too. So now we're going to have scripture study right after dinner, when we're all fed and happy and relaxed. It was a nice time with Jake, and I'm happy we got some alone time together. We need to do that nightly, if only for a few minutes.
A Wonderful Day with Lila
Sometimes I wish I was more awesome. But then I try to be okay with who I am and what I'm able to do in a day.
This morning started at 7:30 or so. Jake was able to sleep in a half-hour extra, so we all had breakfast together. Lila and I enjoyed "dancing" to music on the radio while I got ready for my 9:30 Primary meeting. Lila loves to press the buttons to turn on the CD player and radio on our alarm clock. I found a back-roads route to Melissa Linkfield's house and the first half of it was really lovely, but then one of the roads turned out to be closed, due to construction, so we had to go back to the main roads anyway. It was a lovely drive while it lasted, though.
The meeting went well. It was our first meeting since late January or early February! I've felt so out of the loop. And Primary has been so unstructured and weird lately due to a lot of special conferences or meetings we've had. I'm really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with Primary. We have a new bunch of kids. Still some of the "old" ones, but a lot of new faces too. Our Primary is very large right now, but it will decrease by at least half by the end of the summer because a lot of families are moving away. Lila was pretty wary of Melissa at first, but warmed up a lot once Holly and little Ella arrived. Lila happily wandered around the room, munching on crackers even, and following Ella around. She even sat in my lap a while and wrote on my papers with a pen and ate some of my blueberry coffee cake. I think Holly is pregnant. I heard Kasey Hunt congratulating her a few weeks ago (she didn't say what for, but what else do you slyly congratulate someone about?) and she looks like she might be in the first trimester. That would be exciting.
The meeting ended right as Lila started having a meltdown because it was naptime. She fell asleep on the way home so I let her sleep in the car seat in the garage for an hour; she woke up on her own. While she was napping, I fixed myself some lunch and talked with Mike on the phone. He told me about his trip to Lansing, which went well. If Cassandra had more (or any) support from her family, I'm sure she would be much more eager/ready/willing to marry Mike in a more timely fashion. Her youngest sister Savannah (16) told Mike last night that she wasn't going to be dating because she wasn't ever going to get married. Nice.
Jake called on his way home from a meeting at Stryker, so I invited him home for lunch, and he was able to hang out here for 20 minutes. It was a nice little treat. Lila was pretty cranky while he was here, seemed like she was still tired. So after he left, Lila and I had a party in bed. We read some books and she nursed and she rolled around for a while while I almost dozed off. She never actually fell asleep though, but that quiet, down-time with me seemed to do the trick because for the rest of the day she was a real peach!
We had a lot of fun this afternoon together... and that's so refreshing to say and makes me so grateful because she has had a lot of rough days lately. It was rejuvenating and strengthened our bond. I feel so much love for my daughter today. I cleaned the kitchen while she wandered around the house. Then we went outside on the deck to play for a while. I gave her crackers and a sippy cup that didn't have a spill-proof valve on it. She happily wandered around and "ate" her crackers while I read from the scriptures and wrote a short journal entry. Then Lila started sprinkling her water onto the deck and got a cracker all wet and mushy. It was fun seeing her playing with water though. She's not very playful in the bathtub. I scooped myself some ice cream and ate it outside, and then Lila became interested in it, so I got her a teeny scoop and gave her my bowl. She then ate the ice cream... but drank it like it was milk in a cereal bowl. She was really into it! So when it was gone (some of it had gotten on the floor... and her clothes), I got her a little more, stuck her in the high chair, and she happily sat there for 20+ minutes working at the ice cream. She tried "eating" it with a spoon. It was so cute and I loved watching my girl eat her first bowl of ice cream :) She was a mess afterwards. I also got more cleaning done while she was eating that.
After that, we played in the living room. I chased her around... folded laundry... we read books and sang songs (Itsy Bitsy is her favorite) and had a great time together. She adores me. She loves to give me hugs and looks me right in the eyes and smiles. I love her blue eyes. I love her chubby cheeks and her big belly and her feet. Her feet and her chubby legs are probably my favorite thing in the whole world. My favorite is when she's laying down for a diaper change and playing with her feet, makes her look like a baby still, and I love the way her face looks when she's laying there so calmly. Reminds me of when she was a little baby too.
Oh, the cutest thing she did all day was walk around with the Swiffer and "clean" the floor for me. I removed the two middle segments so that it was shorter than her. She did this for a long time and went all over the kitchen and hallways! She did under the cabinets and in the corners, very thoroughly and very seriously. lol. It was SO cute. I was able to make dinner while she did that.
Jake came home and we had a nice time eating together. Lila enjoyed the fried rice (she likes rice). We read scriptures (we're going to try to do that after dinner now instead of right before Lila's bedtime when she's cranky) and did baths and sent Lila off to bed. She's woken up twice since then, crying very hard, like she's in pain. The last time, she couldn't keep her eyes open and cried/yodeled/yelped/talked for a while. Very sad.
Jake's doing research on how to get money back from the sellers. He and Jim are working on this together. Love having a lawyer in the family :)
So, overall, a great day.

Mother's Day
Last night it took a little longer than we thought to install the microwave. Jake had to adjust it a few different times because it wasn't level, but it's in now and looks great. And now we have a microwave! I love that it's over the stove so we don't have to take up counter space with one.
Mike stopped by for a while last night. Talked about Cassandra the whole time, of course. Apparently, in her head, they aren't as serious as Mike thought they were. But that's fine. He left at like 10:30 or later, I think. We were all really tired.
Jake got Lila up out of bed this morning and made breakfast-in-bed for me. He made yummy French toast and sausage and also got donuts from Sweetwater's last night when he went grocery shopping. He got my favorite for me: Boston Creme.
We were a few minute late for church so had to sit in the very back row. Our ward is much bigger now. We "lost" a lot of families to the 2nd ward, but we also "gained" the entire third ward. We only had Sacrament meeting today, which was really nice. Also really special because baby Ruby Shumway was blessed. The talks were good too... Jared Johnson and Adam Johnson (not related) both spoke. I felt so moved the entire meeting; so grateful to be a mom and so thankful for my mom and my dad too, who stayed home with Em and I.
After church we (adult women) got flowers from the ward and headed to the nursing home to see John. We didn't visit long because he was very tired, and he didn't want the donut we'd brought him so we ate it on the way home.
Lila took a short nap and so Jake and I got to doze off for a little while, but her nap didn't last too long. Less than an hour. Had lunch. Ramen noodles... second time we had them this weekend but it hit the spot. Did some cleaning and then went outside for quite a while. Lila played with the neighbor boys a little (Brody and Toby). Brody (4) was standing by the street and pulled his pants all the way down, lol, so he had to go inside. So funny.
We took Lila for her first bike ride of the year. The last time we went, in September, she had to sit in her infant carseat. She seemed to be okay with it. The sun was pretty bright, and she doesn't like hats (they make her cry) or sunglasses. We stopped by a trail where you can watch horses at a neighboring farm, very pretty. And then we talked to our neighbors across the street for a while, Chad and Mary LaFrenz. Jake worked with Chad at Stryker. Apparently the owners of the house also had a golden retriever; Chad and Mary told us. They also told us again to expect a lot of wildflowers growing in front of our house and on the sides.
At around 4:00 we started dinner, and Jake surprised me with some charcoal for our grill! He'd marinated chicken earlier in the day. So I chopped up some potatoes and made a foil packet of them and he threw the chicken on the grill once it'd warmed up. And then we sat and relaxed in the sunshine while dinner cooked. It was soo awesome! Everything I hoped living in a house would be :) Lila really enjoys being outside too.
Dinner was yummy. And Lila surprised us both by trying, and liking, both corn and potatoes! She put both in her mouth and swallowed, quite a few times! It was awesome! At lunch she tried to eat Ramen and really liked that too. So, she is definitely making progress now! It's so exciting!
Mike and Cassandra stopped by for a little while to drop off the twin bed Mike had been borrowing. It was nice seeing them together and visiting with C. Lila was so funny... she's becoming much more weary around strangers and was giving Cassandra the stink eye almost the entire time she was here. They're on their way to Lansing right now to visit C's paternal grandma. Mike was pretty reluctant to go (he didn't tell C that, but told us) but we told him it'd be good and that spending time with (extended) family is an important part of marriage.
Lila went to bed at 7, and now we're hanging out till bedtime, writing in journals, etc. It was a really, really awesome Mother's Day weekend. I feel refreshed, relaxed, and loved. Jake did a great job.
