Sickies

We did go to the library.  Tuesday night, Emily Solomon (Emily's friend) came over for a little while.  She wanted to meet Lila.  She's funny, reminds me of Jenna Bernson.  After they left, I talked to Mike a little on the phone (he was on his way home from the temple) and read some library books and played on the iPhone.  Jake didn't get home till around 11 or 11:30.

Wednesday... maintenance came over and fixed the screen door (re-caulked it) and worked on a leak in the master bathroom.  So for Lila's second nap, we hung out in her room.  I want to get our twin bed back (Dan's using it) so that she can start taking naps in her room.  I think it'd be good for her.

She slept for an hour.  I held her in the rocking chair.  I had to wake her up because we had to leave to look at houses.  Jake and I met at 4:20, he parked his car, we went to the first house.  The first three houses we saw were in the same neighborhood... Parkview/Oakland area.  None of them fit the bill.  Then we headed north a ways and found a house that we really like.  It's out in the country... but very close to the freeway... but it has propane and apparently that can be expensive... and they're asking $20k more than they paid for it just 3 years ago.  Don't think they put that much money into it. So, anyway, it's something to consider.  Mike warned us that propane is pretty expensive (the house has propane).  So.  We'll do some thinking.

When we got home from that, we had a quick dinner before Jake headed off to home-teach.  I was pretty crabby when he left.  Wasn't feeling well and wasn't looking forward to another bed-time alone with Lila.  Emily stopped by to pick up some laundry she'd left here.  Jake got home around 8:45 and we were both in bed by 9:30.  I had an awful time sleeping that night.  Laid awake for hours.  So did Jake.  Lila slept great, though.  It was stupid.

I was tired Thursday (yesterday).  Understandably so.  It was another day at home, alone, for Lila and I.  It will be marvelous when we're all healthy and can get out more.  She napped, I read, I made noodle soup for lunch and tried to feed her, but of course, she just threw all her food on the floor.  I made lemon raspberry muffins again (yum) and was happy when Jake got home.  We had a yummy, easy homemade pizza for dinner.  Did showers.  Laid in bed with Lila for an hour while she worked on falling asleep.  It's hilarious, really, how she tries to get comfortable and fall asleep.  She puts her forehead on the bed, on my tummy, on my face, bent forward, with her butt up in the air, like a yoga pose.  And then she'll toss and turn a little.

She was asleep by 9.  So Jake and I got to watch The Office.  We went to bed at 10:30.  I slept much better, but did lay awake for a while because my stomach is starting to hurt now.  Queasy.  Not quite pukey, but queasy and upset.  I'm feeling pretty awful today and Lila's doing about the same as she has been.  So grateful that it's the weekend.  Jake gave me a nice backrub last night before bed and was good at soothing me and helping me relax.  He took NyQuil and felt "guilty" that I couldn't (because I'm nursing).

The Betzolds have been emailing back and forth today... Melissa is planning her trip to Michigan/Ohio in July.  Mike is going to fly out there and drive here with her.  We'll spend the 4th of July week partying in Ironwood and then spend a weekend in Petoskey.  I'm so excited.  I can't wait to see her and the girls again.

iPhone

Yesterday was a pretty full day, considering that Lila and I didn't leave the apartment.  Lila's schedule was off a little, but she still got a lot of sleep.  She woke up at 9 and was ready for a nap by 11.  Only slept for 20-30 minutes.  So we played for a while and had lunch.  Emily was planning on coming over so I left the door unlocked so that Lila and I could take another nap at 1:30.  I had a bad headache (I've been having them quite a bit the last few days) so the sleep was awesome and I woke up feeling much better.  Lila felt a lot better too.

Emily was there when I woke up.  I woke up shortly after she got there... lol... she was a giant creeper and was watching Lila and I sleep for a little while.  She said that my eyes were partially open and my mouth was twitching.  So classy.  We laughed about that for a while... if she had been there when I woke up I would've been so freaked out.

We got two packages in the mail yesterday.  The first was Jake's iPhone!  We were surprised it got here so fast.  The second was a 4-inch high bust of Jake, a little statue.  The project he was working at in Germany for Stryker involved making 3D scans of things and printing them out using a 3D printer.  So the last time Jake was there, they scanned his face/neck/shoulders and printed out a bust of him.  It's so funny.  It reminds Emily and I of the scene in Pride and Prejudice (the Kierra Knightley version) where she sees the bust of Darcy and the housekeeper asks her if it's a good likeness of him.  Emily and I want to make a movie of us doing that with Jake's, which would be funny because it's so little.  We laughed a lot about that too.

At 4, Lila was ready for another nap but I don't think she actually fell asleep until 4:45, and then slept for an hour.  She woke up as Emily and I were Skyping with Mom and Dad, and Jake got home around that time.  I made dinner, we ate it, and activated his iPhone.  I spent the rest of the night playing with that and downloading apps.  I'm in love.  I couldn't justify getting one for myself though... not when I'm at home all day with access to a computer and the internet, and I don't have a job where I'd need to be checking my email a lot, etc.  But it's sure fun to play with.

Dan is still going up to visit Kelsey for 6 days.  He said that the talk went "really well" and still wants to date her even though he knows it won't really work out.  We talked with him for a while last night. It was pretty unproductive, lol.  He's sooo... immature.  But he's trying to make an appointment with Kathy, the LDS counselor.  And he talked to one of his rehab counselors about it too.  So that's good.

We did showers and bedtime last night pretty quickly.  Lila was really tired by 8.  We were sitting in bed with her and Jake was looking at his phone and she peeked underneath it to get his attention and said, "Dada."  I don't know if I've ever heard her say it like that before, in order to get his attention. She probably has, but I've never noticed it.  So that was really cute.

I found a good trick to get her to fall asleep much more easily.  When she's sitting up in bed before bedtime, after we've read books, if I just rub her back until I feel her body is relaxed, and then lay her down, she dozes off pretty quickly and quietly.  It's awesome!  So far today and yesterday she's fallen asleep on her own... and she usually doesn't do that for naps, just bedtime.  So that's good.

We were up past midnight again.  Oy.  I cleaned up and read, played on the iPhone, and Jake did clerk work.

Oh, we had a kind of funny conversation Sunday night.  For a long time now, probably most of our marriage, I sometimes ask Jake what he loves about me.  And it's so funny because almost every time he says, "Your personality."  Without being much more specific than that.  But he says it in a thoughtful way, like he really means it, but it's just such a lame answer. lol.  Anyway, he asked me what exactly I wanted to hear, and so I gave him an example of something I loved about him... and I can't remember what I said, but it was something he had done earlier that day.  And he said, "But that's just something I did.  You want to know what I love that you've done?"  All alone he thought I wanted to hear something he loved that I am, like a personality trait or something, which he has a hard time with.... but he has no problem thinking of cute things that I do that he loves.  It was a really funny moment.  He said that he thought it was funny/cute how I texted him updates during testimony meeting that morning... about who was up at the podium.

The past several nights I've been waking up at around 5am and lay awake for an hour, unable to sleep.  I realized last night (while I was laying there, unable to sleep) that it was because we haven't been turning the heat down because Lila's sick... and I don't sleep well when I'm too warm.  So hopefully I'll be able to get some better sleep from now on.... I think that the lack of sleep is causing my headaches.

Lila woke up at 9 this morning screaming and crying.  Hyperventilating.  She cried like that for 20 minutes.  So that was weird.  She calmed down eventually.  Lori said that when Jake was little he used to do that when he woke up from naps, maybe it was something like that or maybe because she's still pretty sick.  We played till 11, when she got really cranky/tired again and then she fell asleep at around 11:30, on her own, which is great.

I'd like to go to the library today... we'll see.  Emily's coming over again.  Maybe we can go together or she can stay here with Lila and I can go.

The Sabbath

We made it to bed pretty "early" last night... maybe 11 or 11:30.  I woke up sometime around 5 or 6 and laid awake for a long time, but I was warm and comfortable, at least.  Lila slept a little better than the previous two nights, but still woke up a few times.  Coughed a lot.

I got up for church at around 8.  Lila got up just as I was about to leave, so I was able to nurse her a little bit.  She is way too cute.  And it's hard leaving her because I'm not used to doing that!  I was maybe 5 minutes late for sacrament.  Sat in the back by myself.  It was nice being able to pay attention to the speakers (or the people bearing their testimonies, in today's case).  Stopped in Primary to hand off the agenda and see if we are meeting this week.  I love my ward.

Got home and Jake left to go to priesthood and the nursing home.  Lila went down for a nap shortly after I got home (at 11...even though she usually doesn't nap till 12).  I was nursing her, laying down in bed, like I often do before naptime.  She had just fallen asleep when she started coughing and puked up her milk.  So then there was crying as I changed her outfit and cleaned up quickly, but she fell back asleep quickly.  And slept for 2 hours!  Which is a rarity!  Poor girl doesn't feel good.

So I read some of my book and Jake got home.  We had lunch (nachos); he broke his fast.  Oh, last night after I wrote, we had a conversation in the kitchen about obedience... how I still wasn't like totally on-board with not watching the Superbowl.  I had agreed not to do it, but my heart wasn't in it.  Jake admitted that he actually really enjoys watching the Superbowl and that he really wanted to, but he wanted to be obedient to the Prophets' counsel and the Lord's... to making the Sabbath day a truly holy, sacred day.  And also how he often doesn't want to fast, but he does, to be obedient.  So that really touched me and I told him that I would really try to be better.

During the closing hymn in sacrament meeting, I had a very strong, sweet impression from the Spirit.  I was thinking about the Staples, for some reason.  Kevin and Sonja.  And I've been thinking of them from time-to-time the past few weeks... about how they are really have an amazing family, and how I hope that Jake and I can have that kind of family too.  I was thinking about how interesting it is that Kevin, at such a relatively young age (32 or 33) is bishop.  And then I had this vision of Jake as bishop someday.  And I was overwhelmed with the spirit... because I know that Jake is being prepared, and is preparing, for special work in Heavenly Father's kingdom.  I know that his faithful obedience is blessing our family and will continue to bless our family.  His obedience to simple commandments is honorable... and I was filled with a strong desire to support and sustain him in whatever righteous thing he wanted for our family.  Including not watch the Superbowl. :)  It's funny that we're not even sports fans, but the Superbowl has been cause for several "discussions" over the past few years...

As we were finishing lunch, Dan arrived.  He wanted to talk and get some advice.  He's been dating that 16-year-old girl he met in rehab, ever since they got out of rehab in November.  He's thinking pretty seriously about moving up to Midland to be with her.  To make a long story short... he wants a serious, committed relationship, and she doesn't.  And she shouldn't.  She's 16!  It's really an unhealthy relationship, for both of them, for a lot of reasons.  But it was a very good talk.  He said that he is "dating to marry," just as we're taught to do in church.  (He's currently inactive.)  That he does want to get married and have a family.  He said he's done "living the single life," which I think is pretty funny... because he's... 18.  And a very immature 18, at that.  (It's sad though, because his perspective is very skewed because he didn't go to high school like a "regular" kid.)  So we talked with him about qualities he wants his future wife to have.  He's never made a list of qualities before.  His list, for today, only had five qualities, but they're all very important things: 1) smart/educated, 2) motivated, 3) family oriented, 4) hard-working, 5) good communication.  We asked how Kelsey (his girlfriend) compares to the list.  He said that she has only one of those qualities... that she's "family oriented."  He's especially bothered right now because she's been hanging out with a 20-year-old guy.  Anyway, so then we helped him make a list of things that he needs/wants to talk with her about and I coached him on how to talk with her so that she might not feel offended/attacked.  But, bottom line is that she's much too young and immature to have the kind of relationship that Dan wants.  He knows that.  He said, "I know what I need to/should do... but I don't know if I'll do it."  He's... basically addicted to the sex.  Which is why his substance abuse counselor advised him not to be in a relationship for a year.  But, he didn't listen.  Anyway.  He has the chance here to make a good decision, and I hope he does it.  He's going to call and talk to her tonight, and then call us tomorrow to tell us what happened.  I talked with him about sacrifice--about doing something hard and painful now in order to have something better later.  I hope he can have that kind of perspective as he makes these decisions.  What a punk. :)

After he left, we laid down with Lila again and read some books.  Lila was pretty funny today.  Making funny noises, giggling at us, being pretty playful, even though she's sick.  We adore her.  We really do.  She eventually fell asleep, and Jake and I dozed off too... and then at 4:30 Mike came over.  He went to the KUB's break-the-fast today.  And brought us some yummy brownies to snack on. :)  Yesterday and he Emily shopped more together and they also went bowling with Natalie, a friend of Emily's from the branch.  Mike's been having a lot of fun lately with other YSA's; it's been good for him.  So he got to play with Lila too.  He has a piano app on his ipad that Lila loved playing with.  She's a hoot.  He left to go fix Emily's internet, which she needed to study for an A&P exam.  I'm glad they can be friends.

He said that the first time they went shopping together, Emily had picked out a bunch of clothes for him to try on.  He went to try them on, and when he came back out of the fitting room, he looked around and didn't see Emily in the men's section.  He figured that she must have lost steam and went to look for clothes for herself, like Kalina would have done.  But then he looked further down the men's section and she was there, all happy/excited, with a bunch more clothes for him.  He was really impressed.  He said it's really good for him to see how other women can be.

After he left, I called Patrick Bonczyk.  He'd called while Mike was over.  He just started grad school a month ago in Louisville, KY.  His apartment is pretty awful, and he's a little depressed... homesick and all.  But now he's thinking about dropping out at the end of the semester (it's too late to get a refund) and just looking for an entry-level position somewhere in Louisville.  He's worried about incurring too much debt and not having a job after he gets a PhD.  (He's working on his masters in musicology right now... music history.)  He really wants to get married to Tomomi (the Japanese girl, who lives in Japan, that he's been dating for a few years now) and have a family with her, and to be able to support their family and have a pretty stable life and lifestyle.  That probably won't happen if he gets a PhD in his field; there just aren't enough jobs out there.  The other option besides just dropping out of school is to finish his masters and then go to librarian school and be a music librarian.  Which makes a LOT of sense, to me, anyway.  So we had a long talk about it.  And it was so nice to visit and to be there for an old friend.  I count it as a special blessing, perhaps directly related to our trying to keep the Sabbath holy.

I used a lot of my Gryphon skills today. :) Talking with Dan and Pat.  I'm so grateful for them... being able to empathize and help people sort out their feelings and problems.  I'm positive that they will come in so handy with my children.

Lila went to bed after that, at 9.  Fell asleep pretty quickly.  Still coughing a lot... but hopefully she'll be feeling better in the next few days.  Jake's working on clerk stuff and I've been typing away on here.  Hopefully we'll get a little alone time before bed and another long, busy week begins.

Black Boots, Sunshine, Dinner Party, Cleaning

Friday (yesterday) was a pretty busy day.  We're not normally gone from home that long!  Lila had another rough night of sleep but was up at 9.  We went to the stake center at 10 to drop off dessert for a funeral luncheon and helped set up a little and visited with some of the women there (Alicia Thompson, who just found out that she's having a girl next, the female Leflers, and Valerie Michalek).  Then we headed to Emily's and had lunch there.  I thought Lila and I might have to go home so that Lila could nap, but after walking around Emily's darkened room with her for 10 minutes (but it felt like so much longer because she's so heavy) she did fall asleep and napped for maybe 30-40 minutes.  Not long.

It was so nice sitting in Em's apartment though because the sun was out and pouring in through the big windows in her apartment.  I love sunshine.  Especially in the winter.

After that we headed to DSW to find some black, leather dress boots for me.  Jake's dad spilled some insulation or paint on my old ones over Christmas.  We did find some.  I'm not like absolutely crazy about them, but they fit and they're pretty cute and they'll do.  I sure love having those kinds of boots in the winter.  We went to Marshall's and tried on some clothes there but didn't end up buying anything.  Lila pooped in the dressing room... of course.  She had 4-5 episodes of diarrhea that day.

Dropped Emily off, went back home.  Skyped with my mom while we waited for Jake to get home.  At 5 he met the missionaries on campus and they taught a Chinese investigator.  He loved it.  He came home and we left to have dinner at Jen and Sean Randall's.  Jen is Jake's boss, and they're also in our ward.  They live in Tall Oaks apartments, right by the Thompsons.  In a 2-bedroom just like we used to live in.  Their boys, Reid (11) and Mackenzie (5), are just... adorable.  Well-mannered, gentle, smart, happy, cute, friendly, etc.  I just love being around kids like that and the spirit in the home was a happy, peaceful one.  So it was a really nice time.  We didn't get there till around 7.  Dinner was chicken and mashed potatoes and salad.  Dessert was a really yummy apple crisp, but I couldn't eat the apples.  So it was fun just visiting and getting to know each other.  I'm really grateful that Jake is working for Jen at this new company.  It's all been so good so far.  Jen complimented my talk that I gave a few weeks ago; she was impressed that I don't have to read my talk... she said she gets way too nervous to do that.  But I'm the opposite: it makes me way more nervous to read my talk than to just wing it.  Also had a conversation about how Jake is never angry.

We were there till 9, Lila was really tired and 9 is bedtime.  She fell asleep on the way home.  Didn't get back to sleep till 10:15 or so.  Mike came over after that and we watched the movie Red.  Good movie.  We were up late, till 1.  Before we headed to bed, Jake and I whispered in the hallway outside of our room about how much we love Lila.  It's so adorable, I think, how in love we are with her... and it's so special that we have her to bond over.  We talked about how much we love this co-sleeping thing.  On Facebook the other day, Amberly Schmidt's status was something about how she checked in on her baby before she headed to bed... he was asleep in his crib and she just cried because he was so peaceful and she just wanted to hold him but didn't want to wake him up... and I thought about how wonderful it is just sleeping next to Lila and getting to cuddle her whenever.  I know it doesn't work for every family, but we sure love it.  And we giggled imagining how Lila sits up with sleepy, grumpy eyes when she wakes up in the middle of the night, just sits there, it's so adorable.  And I'm grateful knowing that I won't have any regrets about Lila... I won't regret not cuddling her and being near her when she's all grown up, or at least an older child.

Today was a good day.  Pretty low-key, but good.  We cleaned all morning, which was great.  So nice to have Jake's help.  Lila was pretty miserable all day.  She now has a cough and a runny nose, so she was pretty clingy.  So we got the place cleaned up.  Aunt Gina came over for a little while.  She hadn't seen Lila for quite some time!  It was nice visiting with her, and she's excited that we're looking at houses.  Oh, Jake talked to the apartment manager today.  In our contract, it says that in order to break our lease early, we would need to pay 3 months rent (plus extra, because we're paying less than market value right now)... which would be between $2000-3000.  A lot!  But Steve said that if we're planning on buying a house, we'll just need to bring in proof (paperwork or whatever) and we'd only have to pay one month's rent!  Woohoo!  What a huge relief.  I don't think that will really change how fast/slow we'll buy, but it's just a big relief.  Now we need to start talking to lenders.

Lila fell asleep in Jake's lap in the rocking chair for her 4:00 nap... but didn't sleep too long there.  After she woke up, I had dinner (Jake is fasting) and went grocery shopping by myself.  Not my favorite thing to do, but Lila would not have had a fun time at all.  So she and Jake got an hour together... and when I got home and told Jake that I was only gone an hour, he was surprised because it felt like so much longer. :) lol.  I told him, yeah, welcome to my world.

We took showers and Lila was asleep shortly after 8.  Poor girl is so miserable.  So Jake and I have been typing away... he's working, I've been doing Primary stuff and writing in here.  Now maybe I'll read a little before we head to bed.

Snow Day & A Fever

On Wednesday, Jake got to sleep in till 8.  Lila woke up briefly at 8:20, but then slept until 9:40.  Both of her naps were over an hour.  Must be tired.  We kind of bugged Jake throughout the day, while he was working in the office.  He took a short lunch break.  And then as 5:00 approached he stopped working.  Emily came over around 2 and Mike got here around 4.  The two of them went to the mall.  Mike asked Emily to help him pick out some new clothes, particularly an outfit for the upcoming YSA Valentine's Day dance :)  That's adorable.  He ended up getting a new wardrobe, basically, because he's lost so much weight that none of his old clothes fit him.  Not that his old clothes were very stylish.  So it's a fresh new start and he looks great.  Emily had a lot of fun giving him a "makeover."  She's amazed with how easy it is to dress a guy, she's never got shopping with one before.  They came over afterward and Mike modeled his new clothes for us.  Fun times.

Jake woke up at 3am that night to order his iPhone from Verizon.  We did not sleep well that night.  Lila was up a LOT... moaning and tossing and turning.  She felt warm, but I figured it was because she had too many blankets on.  So we didn't sleep well.  As I was laying there half-awake, helping her get back to sleep, I remember feeling SOOO grateful to be a mom.  Seriously, because that may sound sarcastic.  I just felt so much love and happiness, it felt like... sunshine. lol.  Maybe I was dreaming.  Sleeping with Lila is still a joy, and I recognize it more now that we tried the cry-it-out thing.  I just love it.  It's one of the greatest joys of my life, to have her close to me.

Thursday morning, after Lila got up at 10, I took her temperature and it was 101. :(  Poor baby.  I don't ever remember her having a fever before, even when she's had ear infections.  So after taking Tylenol, her fever did go down eventually.  Today she doesn't have a fever.  Yesterday was pretty boring, though.  Same old stuff, except Lila's naps weren't great either... waking up coughing, etc.  Puked a time or two.

Jake got home after 6.  I was so happy to see him.  We went out for dinner because I hadn't left the apartment since Monday and I was going stir crazy!  We went to Panera and had fun visiting.  Boy, I've been pretty hormonal lately--a little more touchy and emotional than usual.  (Not pregnant.)  I just need to relax a little.

We let Lila stay up till 9:30 in the living room with us so we could watch The Office. :)

Tuesday's Blizzard

I was pretty crabby with Jake on Monday for not letting me know he wouldn't be home till 8... he probably didn't know he was going to be that long either... but anyway, I was a little crabby.  I'm telling you, winter is getting rough!  The sun is out right now, which is just so lovely.  It makes such a difference.

Lila and I didn't leave the apartment yesterday.  A blizzard hit us in the evening.  So we kept busy inside.  Cleaned, de-cluttered a little.  Made dinner.  Lila took a few good naps.  Read books.  Played with toys.  Lila ate one whole puff for lunch... which is pretty impressive, for her.  That girl is something else.  She is just not interested in food!  At all!  Melissa suggested dipping foods in sauces... apple sauce, yogurt, ketchup, ranch, etc. and we've been trying that but she is just not interested.  And it makes her way less interested if we try to feed her.  I'm not worried really, I know she'll get there in her own time, but I just wonder when she'll start being interested.  I wonder what the doctor will suggest.  I've Googled it a little, but I know what most people say anyway... that all babies are different and that she'll learn how to eat in her own time.

I did a lot of reading/studying Tuesday about Eve.  The mother of all living.  I'm going to read the Old Testament, probably very slowly, and especially study family/marriage/children/women.  I find it all fascinating.

Something new that Lila's doing is she'll press her forehead/face against our faces or my chest.  I think it's her way of cuddling/giving kisses/showing affection... or telling me that she wants to eat.  And it's not in a gentle way.  It's kind of a head-butt.  And she mostly does it when she's tired.  But it's sweet and adorable.  She's still not close to walking.  She can't stand or balance on her own.  Jake sure tries to help her though.  We try to have her walk from Jake to me and vice versa, but as soon as we let go, she kneels down, it's pretty funny because she think it's a game.  So I don't think she'll be walking for a few months yet.  Probably because she's so chubby. :)

Jake got home at 6 and we had a quick dinner of spam and potatoes and then he had his meeting at 7.  Thankfully, it was a conference call meeting--due to the weather--so he could stay home.  And they ended on time (10:30), which was also nice.  I had been dreading another cold, snowy night at home.  But I got to have Jake with me. :)  Lila was asleep by 9:30, and we stayed up past midnight, again.  Seems like that's becoming a habit.  Talked about the Sabbath Day.  Jake wants to keep it holy by not watching the Superbowl.  I still feel like it's not a big deal.  But, I will sustain my husband if it's so important to him.  He really feels like we will be blessed for keeping the Sabbath holy.  I was crabby about that too though.

Monday, Monday, Monday.

Monday (yesterday) was ok.  We had a good morning, standard.  Lila gets up at 9.  We play and have breakfast in the living room until 11.  Lila gets cranky so we go to my room.  She crawls around and plays happily... pulling clothes out of my dresser, playing with the doors on the TV stand, looking at herself in the mirror.  We read books.  At noon, she took an hour nap.  Emily came over around 2.  We had some lunch.  We went to Meijer to get some groceries.  Alicia Thompson had called to ask me to bring dinner to the McCarty's.  (I was supposed to on Sunday, but they cancelled... because he passed away on Sunday.)  I brought them taco soup and corn muffins and chocolate chip cookies.

Jake emailed in the afternoon to say that he would try to leave by 5 so he could come deliver the meal with me... but he didn't get home till almost 8.  Grr.  I was crabby about that.  Not so much that he was late, but that he didn't really keep me posted, and got my hopes up about him getting out by 5.  Oh well.  Emily stayed with Lila while I delivered the meal, which was nice.  Sandy Maikoski, Sister McCarty's sister, answered and took the food.  Lately, since reading The Red Tent, I've been thinking about/noticing how women still band together and take care of each other today.  How my sister is so important in my life.  How my daughter and I will share a special bond.  How sisters at church help raise each others' families and teach others' children the gospel.  I'm feeling so grateful to be a woman and to have so many good women in my life.

A funny quote from yesterday: Emily heard her phone vibrating so got it from her coat pocket.  She didn't realize it was on vibrate so she hadn't checked it in a while.  As she was checking her messages, she said, "Aww, my poor phone was on vibrate."  And we laughed for a long time because she called it her poor phone.  She said it was an accident, probably because she'd been around Lila all day.

Jake and I laughed about something else last night... and maybe I wrote about this when it happened... one time we were visiting with the Johnsons (Rand and Lynn) when Rand was still branch president.  They were analyzing my parents, as they sometimes liked to do, and asked if my dad's "Philippine-ness" was the reason for something... and I giggled because it sounded like he said "Philip Penis" and then Sister Johnson laughed at me and said, "Penis Penis Penis."

So, Jake finally got home at 8.  He played with Lila for a while.  I took a hot shower.  Got Lila ready for bed and she was asleep at 9:30.  Jake and I were up till 11:30 or midnight, talking and reading.
